Dermal fillers are used to volumize areas like lips and decrease wrinkles for smokers lines or crows feet. Juvederm and Restylane are common brand names of fillers currently used. They are made up of hyaluronic acid which attracts water molecules to increase volume.

Who Can Get Fillers Done?
Men and women can get fillers done. If you are in the process of losing weight, you might want to hold off on getting fillers until you reach your goal weight since the contour of your face can change when losing weight.
Less Common Side Effects Include:
- Raised bumps in or under the skin (nodules or granulomas) that may need to be surgically removed
- Open or draining wounds
- A sore at the injection site
- Allergic reaction
- Necrosis (tissue death)
Common Side Effects Include:
- Itching, rash
- Difficulty in performing activities [only observed when injected into the back of the hand]

How Long Does It Last?
Dermal fillers last between 6 to 12 months.
Is There Any Downtime?
Typically there is no downtime with fillers, but there may be some bruising after the treatment. The bruising usually goes away in about a week or two. Please allow two weeks before having photo opportunities to get filler done. Results will vary from one individual to the next. We continually work with our patients to improve results from one treatment to the next.
