Eat to live. Not live to EatBenjamin Franklin
Since the 1920’s people have been trying to figure out a way to lose weight fast. They have tried just about everything from swallowing tapeworms to starvation, only to find out that neither way is helpful or healthy.
The term weight loss or diet for some means having to stress about what to eat, when to eat, and how to cook it. People have tried and failed many a time to look like someone from Hollywood. Therefore, at Burns Integrative Wellness Center we prefer to use the term medical nutrition not weight loss.
Different Diets for Different Body Types
Even though there has been research showing that some diets have medical benefits to them. There is no one size fits all approach. The body is too complex for any one approach to work. Some diets with medical benefits are.
The Keto diet has been shown to possible help reduce the risk of cancer, it has helped to clear up acne, it may possibly help with seizures, and help brain function.
The Paleo diet has been shown to help those with multiple sclerosis, help with diabetes, and help with heart health.
Carb cycling can help those low blood sugars, brain health, and energy.
Which Diet Is Right?
Knowing which diet is right for you takes some work to identify. Dr. Burns has studied personally and/or has taken classes from some of the best people who know body and mind when it comes to health and nutrition. Some of them are given below:
Dr. Russell Marz ND a Master of Nutrition and naturopathic doctor, from a medical standpoint, and what a person maybe deficient in vitamins and minerals as to why they do not achieve optimal health.
Dr. Daniel Amen, world renown psychiatrist, who discovered that certain brain types need different types of diet, nutrition, and exercise to help with optimal brain health.
Dr. John Berardi who has a PhD in exercise and nutrition. He works with celebrities and professional athletes on personalizing diet and exercise routines to help people achieve optimal health. He stresses that there is not one diet for everyone. That everyone’s needs are unique. He founded Precision Nutrition to help others gain he knowledge he has accumulated over the years.
In addition to studding under many nutrition experts to identify the different approaches to nutrition, it can also be important to identify known problem foods, or allergies. We have several pages talking just about allergies that may also be of interest.
Multidisciplinary Approach to Nutrition
Dr. Burns uses a multidisciplinary approach looking at the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual side of each person and their relationship with self and food. Along with body and brain chemistry.
