Thyroid and Thyroid Function

Your thyroid, a small gland located in your neck, plays an enormous part in your overall health. If your thyroid is producing too much or too little of the needed thyroid hormones, your body will be out of balance. Getting your body back in balance is the goal of treating thyroid issues.

At Burns Integrative Wellness Center we work with patients to understand and resolve thyroid issues.  Normally thyroid issues are detected through blood tests along with signs and symptoms that you give to your doctor.  When the thyroid is over or under active, the conditions are called hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroid is when your thyroid is underproducing or doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone. Signs and symptoms can vary per person, but some of the most common signs are:

  • Fatigue
  • Weight gain
  • A puffy face
  • Cold intolerance
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
  • Dry, thinning hair
  • Decreased sweating
  • Heavy or irregular menstrual periods and fertility problems
  • Depression
  • Slowed heart rate

Hashimoto’s Disease

Hashimoto’s is a unique condition that falls under hypothyroidism where the body’s immune system attacks the thyroid.  We have had success treating our Hashimoto’s patients.  Click on the button below to learn more.
